Written Response:
In the story The Giver by Lois Lowry, the theme in this realistic fiction novel is to learn from mistakes and without the constant teachings and memories of those mistakes we cannot act. Throughout the book you can see that the community was all the same they didn't accept change they wanted everyone and everything to be the same and a community cannot work like that. A community becomes stronger by learning from mistakes and how can there ever be mistakes if everyone is forced to do the same things. I say this because since Jonas was never prepared to follow such an important role in the community and the community didn't learn from their first mistake then the second outcome would be no different. In the story the author portrayed the theme in every character in Jonas it made him know that the community would go in to chaos if he left and so did the giver. Since the community was never prepared for something like that to happen they didn't know what to do.
